We have all heard about his genius teaching, his brilliant management skills, even his admirable-almost-intimidating-aura that exudes both intelligence and excellence. This time, let's see more of the personal side of Dean Rudy Ang. And what better way to do this than the only way we know of here -- by raiding his everyday bag!

As we reminded Dean Ang of our BagRaid appointment, he recalls with a problematic expression, "I left my bag in the car... you need my bag." Feeling the anxiety, we were ready to accept a cancellation, but then he went ahead to get it in his car. A few minutes later, he's back carrying this Tumi leather briefcase.

He's been using his bag for six years now, "I used to use this (showing us his previous bag), but this is much better leather (new briefcase), so upgrade. When I started with this bag (old), that was what I could afford; when my purchasing power went up, I could afford this na," he shares.

Noticing the resemblance of his two bags, we asked why he prefers this certain type. "It's more professional and it's not painful in the back. Backpack kasi baduy naman; kung one side lang, mayamaya sumasakit na shoulders ko, so this is an excellent bag."

When it comes to color preference, Dean Ang actually likes brown better. He apparently has a lot of brown leather bags at home for traveling, but then for office, he considers black a more practical option because it goes better with formal apparel.

Earlier, he had to get his briefcase from his car because he often just takes out what he needs from the bag. "If I go to the bank, I take out just my checkbook; if I'm making a presentation, I bring my projector adapter, but if I don't expect to make a presentation, nasa bag ko lang siya. May wi-fi naman dito so I don't need my Smart Bro. If I'm in a coffee shop, then I'm going to bring it down."

"I bring my bag but I don't always carry it out. I don't always need everything all the time." His practicality notably applies even in the simplest habits.

The only things he brings all the time are his phone and his laptop. When asked if he is really a gadget person, he says he's not very technical when it comes to those things. He uses a lot of gadgets but he admits not being an expert when it comes to these things. However, when he travels out of the country, his bag is packed with them.

One missing essential is his Kindle which, he shares, is a mainstay in his car. That explains why despite being a fan of Mac, he doesn't have an iPad. "I was gifted with a Kindle just this year that's why I didn't buy an iPad, but I'm waiting for the next model to come out."

On his preference for Apple gadgets: "It's all purchasing power you know. As my purchasing power goes up I'm able to buy more. Dati mas maliit ang purchasing power, I can't afford Apple, so I can't indulge. But now that im into Apple, parang I'm... hooked." True as they say, once you go Mac, you never go back!

Walking along the brick road or SEC walk, you’ve probably spotted Fr. Dacanay walking with the same old brown briefcase. Well, believe it or not, the bag's already 50 years old. He starts by saying, “This [bag] is probably older than your parents. You know this was given to me by my ninang when I was going to be grade 1, June 1960. Then I used it probably for one or two times. And then, hindi na. You think a grade one would like to bring this? Then my father kept it. Then I only took it back I think I was already a Jesuit”.

Firm. Strict. Organized.

That’s probably who Fr. A.N. Dacanay is to most Ateneans, whether they may be his students or not.

True enough, these characteristics very known of him are manifested in the contents of his bag.

If you're wondering what the one peso coin is doing in his bag, Father humorously said, "Napulot ko yan kanina! *LAUGHS*" The matches, on the other hand are for his cigar.

Myth: Priests bring their Bible wherever they go.

Father brings his own only when it is needed. Same thing goes for his wallet and other things; he brings them only when he goes out and feels like he would need them.

Unlike others who own tons of bags, Father is loyal to his brown bag. "Why buy pa another one diba? I already have a bag". Looks like Fr. Dacanay will not part ways with his beloved briefcase-type of bag soon.

At the end of the day, instead of just simply knowing the contents of Father’s bag,

more questions seem to have been raised.

Will he buy the same type of bag if ever his current bag dies on him?

Or better yet, will it ever die?

Most Ateneans know him probably as the professor who started the Battle of Bel Field. Some might see him as the professor who brings back storytelling in History. Indeed, he sounds big in his field, yet witness the irony on how this "big" man enjoys the littlest of things!

He also carries his students' grades but he didn't allow it to be photographed for confidentiality and ethics as well.

As mentioned in the quote earlier, Sir Dave's things are plain small, simple and FEW. All items found in his bag serve a purpose. One thing he has was there due to one instance wherein he got stuck in Bellarmine Hall (with a CTC class right after) during a very heavy rainfall. So lesson learned: bring an umbrella.

Each and every thing found in Sir Dave's bag are, no doubt, essentials for him. Despite this, he was still able to come up with his top 3 important things:
1. Laptop: He primarily uses it for his lectures BUT he brings it to play games.
2. Wallet: Obviously, it has his money. TRIVIA: the black wallet-sized thing Sir Dave wears around his neck everyday is his wallet. Instead of placing it in his pocket, he wears it everyday because his previous one got stolen.
3. Eyeglass: He just needs it! :)

See how all his things are dark in color, mostly black? No, he’s not an emo. It’s just that, “It goes with anything. Alangan naman mag-floral or Hello Kitty ako”, sir humorously mentioned.

First thing you'll notice in Sir Aris' bag is its size which is, to say, "all-purpose".

Typically bringing three bags before, Sir Aris started to bring just one huge backpack whenever he goes to school for convenience. But according to him, his type of bag really depends on what he'll be doing for class. "Kung maraming gagawin sa class, malaki bag ko. Kung magte-test lang sila, di na kailangan," he concluded.

Having the backpack with many pockets and cases keeps his things organized especially if he has more than one class for the day. He mentions, “Class ko, [Filipino] 11 and 14 so magkaiba pareho, magkaibang preparations.”

When asked what 3 things he'd bring if he has only a SMALL bag, he jokingly said,
"phone, wallet, keys, and iPod".

But kidding aside, the 3 things he'll most likely include would be (1) his cell phone, (2) his wallet, and (3) his iPod because he is usually alone and quoting him, "Ginagamit ko ito para magkaroon ng sariling mundo."

But how will he enter his house without his keys?
"Di bale, may tao naman dun eh." :))

Sir Nico shares that he is very pragmatic. He only uses a bag because he needs to. But according to him, it is important that whatever he buys is in his favorite color (violet or pink).

He also asserted the observation on the type of bag he uses when he said, "Mga bag ko sa bahay messenger type... Hindi na ako nagbabackpack except 'pag na sa ibang place ako."

"Practical nga ako, bumibili lang ako dahil kailangan ko siyang bilhin." He emphasizes this practicality by justifying that he writes on a 2009 planner 'cause it was the only one he saw.

And why is that? His answer was simple, "Kasi makulay..."

In the end, Sir Nico concludes by saying that the way he dresses up and the colors of his things are based on his emotions. And as of the moment, he is happy. :)
